The emerald tree boa can strike a bird or small mammal in complete darkness. The pits along the lips of most boas and pythons, and the nostril-like cavities of pit vipers, are infrared heat receptors. Snakes use these pits to sense the location of anything that differs in temperature from its surroundings by as little as 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit.

Punxsutawney Phil Announces 6 More Weeks
Written by Administrator

Punxsutawney Phil has announced to his "Inner Circle", a group of handlers who speak Groundhogese, that he has indeed seen his shadow and there will be six more weeks of winter throughout the United States.
What does this mean to Arizonians? We're guessing a "moderately temperate" winter with highs in the 70's and lows ranging from 40-50 degrees. I, for one, am looking forward to the postponement of soaring summer temperatures.
Despite Punxsutawney Phil's extended age, he's chosen some very modern approaches in announcing his weather predictions for 2010. The use of the Pennsylvania-tourism Facebook page spawned a slew of comments ranging from relief for a few more days of cool temps to dramatic cries for relief from the cold.
Complications with Twitter, including a breach of security in Punxsutawney Phil's account, stopped most announcements from reaching the Tweeting public.
