RinTinTin: The Life & Legend PDF Print E-mail

Your favorite celebrity lives in a big house.

You’ve never actually visited that big house, but you’ve seen pictures and wow: sumptuous bedrooms with ridiculously huge beds, lush lawns, garage-door-size fireplaces, serious marble bathrooms, and a kitchen that belongs in a five-star French restaurant. It almost makes your place look like a doghouse by comparison.

But - depending on the doghouse - that might be a good thing, as you’ll see in the new book “Rin Tin Tin: The Life and The Legend” by Susan Orlean.

For Leland Duncan, growing up without a father was bad. Being temporarily left in an orphanage by his mother was worse.  But each time he was forced to leave behind yet another beloved dog, the pain was almost unbearable.

“The Chicken Chronicles” by Alice Walker PDF Print E-mail
Written by The Bookworm Sez

chicken chroniclesPeople call you a “Dog Person” and you kind of like that.

It’s no reflection on you, personally, of course. That moniker just says to the world that you have a love for anything canine, that you probably have a few pups of your own, and that you’ve never known a dog you didn’t like. You probably also know a lot of other Dog People and maybe a few Cat People and Horse People, too.

Author Alice Walker would never cotton to anything so commonplace. No, Walker is a Chicken Person, and in her new memoir “The Chicken Chronicles”, she writes about her newfound friends and what they taught her about life.

Alice Walker had never seen a chicken before.

But, of course, she had. As a child growing up in Georgia, it was her responsibility to chase down Sunday dinner. She’d collected plenty of eggs in her lifetime, too; some for food and some for music lessons.

“Snook Alone” by Marilyn Nelson, illustrated by Timothy Basil Ering
c.2010, Candlewick
$16.99 / $20.00 Canada
48 pages

What are the things you like to do all by yourself?

You’re a big kid, so there are probably many things. You can dress yourself and zip your jacket – although it’s nice to have help sometimes. You can crawl into bed and pull up the covers, but being tucked in is better. You can feed yourself, play by yourself, and ride your bike alone, but it’s more fun when you’ve got a friend.

In the new book “Snook Alone” by Marilyn Nelson, illustrated by Timothy Basil Ering, a little dog does everything with his best friend - until one terrible night. Out on an island in the far away sea, there lived a monk named Abba Jacob.
