Most of us love seeing pet pictures on Facebook, but there are a few “faux paws” pet lovers make that can really annoy the people on their friends list. So how does one keep their friends and followers from blocking or hiding them? Read over the list below and see if you’re guilty of any of these pet-related social media mistakes:
Photo overload! When sharing pet photos, there is a point when a person crosses the line from “That’s so cute!” to “Do you do anything but take pictures of your animals?” Think about a time when someone pulled you aside to look at a few dozen photos of their new human baby. Sure, babies are cute, but after the first 15 shots, your brain goes a little numb. The same thing happens when you post more than a handful of your favorite pet pictures in a sitting. Post only your most interesting, and in focus, pictures.

Have you ever wondered about St. Francis, the patron Saint of Animals, and his relationship to the Wolf of Gubbio? Well, we've got the inside scoop on this legend. But in order to tell you that story, I have to tell you this story…
Fioretti di San Francesco:
The best source we have on St. Francis is from an anonymous Italian text, which history believes was written by an anonymous Tuscan writer. It’s called the “Fioretti” or “Little Flowers of St. Francis”, and it’s a florilegium (basically, lots of little stories excerpted and placed in one big story). The stories, which were composed at the end of the 14th century), were divided into 53 short chapters.
There are many interesting stories in this book. One is about how Francis and his “brothers” gave up their small home to allow a donkey to live there. Francis wrote about this in the Canticle of the Creatures, an ode to God’s living things. “All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures.”

There’s lots of great tips and advice on the internet about preparing your pets for Halloween. Of course we need to be sure our animals are safe and secure during the first major fall holiday of the year, but sometimes the tips and advice we read can prove difficult to translate into our individual situations with our own pets.
I honestly hadn’t given a lick of thought to preparing Sally, our new family member, for Halloween until about a week ago. First, I panicked, and my immediate thought was to forget about Halloween this year and just keep the lights off and block access to the door bell. After those two seconds flashed by, I realized that was silly and moved on to ponder some real solutions.

The first positive West Nile virus mosquito sample of the 2011 season was trapped in the City of Maricopa on Friday, June 24, 2011. Pinal County, in central Arizona, performs routine surveillance to detect the presence of West Nile virus in the mosquito population. Substantial West Nile virus activity was reported in 2010, and it is unknown how serious 2011 will be. To date, state health officials report a total of 15 mosquitoes were positive for West Nile in Arizona. Public Health officials at the state and local level urge people to take protective measures to avoid mosquito bites and reduce the places mosquitoes live and breed.
Pets are also susceptible to the disease. West Nile virus can cause severe illness in people and animals, although not everyone who is infected will develop symptoms. There is a vaccine available for horses, but to date, no vaccine has been developed for other species.
