AzCATs’ Trap, Neuter, Return continues to lead the way

Local nonprofit breaks goal to sterilize 1000 feral cats in October

(Phoenix) In honor of National Feral Cat Day on October 16th Arizona Cat Assistance Team (AzCATs), vowed to set a new record.  “Our goal was to humanely trap and end the breeding cycle for 1,000 free-roaming cats during the month of October, the organization’s largest TNR effort since its inception,” says President & CEO, Melissa Newton.  “We are pleased to announce that we not only achieved our goal, we surpassed it, ending the breeding cycle for 1,200 free-roaming cats in October.”

“AzCATs collaborates with several other rescue organizations and we knew that with their help we would succeed.” Melissa said.   One, Altered Tails sponsored 595 of the surgeries this month.  Their President and Founder Pat Carpenter said, “When Altered Tails learned of AzCATs’ goal to sterilize 1000 feral cats in October, we wanted to help.  Sterilizing feral cats is an important part of Altered Tails’ spay/neuter program, as more than 50% of the kittens turned into Animal Care and Control and AHS are born to feral and free-roaming cats.  Congratulations to AzCATs on exceeding their goal.”  The Animal Defense Leagues’ Spay/Neuter Hotline sponsored 23 surgeries and contributed toward others. The Arizona Humane Society sponsored 149 surgeries.  The Arizona Animal Welfare League and Animal Rescue Center also assisted by providing reduced fees for surgeries.  It truly was a remarkable unique collaborative effort aimed at reducing the flood of homeless kittens entering our shelters in the spring.

AzCATs is determined to keep up the pace and end the year with 8,000 free-roaming cats no longer breeding on our streets.  If you would like to help, or if you need help with free-roaming cats that you are feeding contact them at 480-968-4TNR (4867) or at www.azcats.org.

AzCATs is an Arizona non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation dedicated to humanely ending cat overpopulation.  For more information visit the web site at www.azcats.org or contact 480-968-4867 or info@azcats.org.

All Pets Radio Debut New Katrina Pet Website

All Pets Radio is going to debut a new Katrina Pet Website on September 1st to honor, and remember, this terrible tragedy.

This website will spotlight happy tails, marvelous human and pet reunions, and a special memorial to loved ones lost.

They say my Katrina book was the inspiration for this, and I am honored by that, but these are truly the pets' stories, not mine.

And money raised by advertising on this website will be going to a very good cause.

They will be featuring a few of my poems from my Katrina book on this website, as well as many stories and pictures of adorable rescued critters now living all across the U.S..

And yes, that old guy in the picture is me - it took me quite a while to trap that starving, totally frightened dog, too.  But now he's got a very good home, and that's really all that matters.

So please check this site out on September 1st, and please tell your animal loving friends about it.

Stay! Mat - The Wireless Crate™

Traveling with your dog this summer and need a portable training solution?  PetSafe is proud to introduce the PetSafe Stay! Mat Wireless Crate, the first portable alternative to the traditional dog crate.  An industry first, Stay! Mat provides an effective, safe and comfortable environment that allows you to interact with your pet without cage wires or plastic walls.  The Stay! Mat is portable and enables you to spend time with your pet in places that are customarily off-limits with traditional crates.  Your dog simply wears a receiver collar – if he leaves the mat, he will get a tonal or safe static correction, teaching your dog to “stay” in one place.  Now your dog can go where you go!  Battery operated and water resistant, Stay! Mat is lightweight and easy to clean with a removable machine washable cover.  Available in three sizes – small, medium and large.  Operating and training manual included.

How it Works

The Stay! Mat functions by detecting your dog's weight on the mat. If your dog leaves the mat while the unit is turned on, the mat will send a radio signal up to 6 feet in all directions. The receiver collar will receive the radio signal and produce a beep or beep and mild static correction until your dog returns to the mat. The correction type depends on the setting you choose. Once your dog returns to the mat, the beep and static correction will cease. (Two week training period required.)

High resolution photos available by request.

Fancy Feast® Elegant Medleys™ Gourmet Cat Food Introduced during Aspen Food and Wine Classic

June 16, 2006 (Aspen, CO) – Yellowfin Tuna Florentine, white meat chicken, whipped egg soufflé, savory broths, garden greens—all things you might find at the Aspen Food and Wine Classic held June 16-18. Visitors to the “Gallery of Elegant Meals” at the renowned Baldwin Gallery (209 South Galena Street) will find all of these, plus the Fancy Feast cat dining on new restaurant-inspired Fancy Feast® Elegant Medleys™ Gourmet Cat Food.

The Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys “Gallery of Elegant Meals” will feature authentic menus and artifacts from author Rob DiSilvestre and will be hosted by chef and cat owner Rocco DiSpritito. In addition, visitors will be able to see the new Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys offerings, which are unlike any other cat food in visual and aromatic appeal.

This is the first time a cat food has been showcased at the same time as the Aspen Food and Wine Classic. The “Gallery of Elegant Meals” is based on DiSilvestre’s book, Collectible Meals: Real Menus from History & Hollywood, and will feature menus, artifacts and photos of famous galas such as John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Dinner (1961), the Titanic’s Maiden Voyage (1912) and the Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer (1981). DiSilvestre will be on hand to discuss famous culinary events and guests will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite meals, with each vote triggering a donation of Elegant Medleys product to the Aspen Animal Shelter.

“We couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate venue to introduce this new product,” said Vincent Biroscak, Fancy Feast brand manager. “Cat owners have told us that if their cat’s food looked and smelled better to them, their cat would also enjoy it more and mealtimes would be an even more magical experience for both of them. Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys entrée appeals just as much to owners as to their felines.”

Like menus at upscale eateries, each Elegant Medleys recipe is are fully prepared with elegant combinations of delectable ingredients such as white meat chicken, wild salmon, yellofin tuna and lean turkey, in a flavorful broth, sauce or soufflé, with garden greens. Each dish contains a combination of three “foods” cats love in a variety of forms. The Elegant Medleys line will be available in July wherever cat food is sold and will retail for $.79 for a 3-ounce can.

Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys brand cat food is manufactured by Nestlé Purina PetCare Company, one of the leading global manufacturers in the pet food industry.  Nestlé Purina promotes responsible pet care, humane education, community involvement and the positive bond between people and their pets.  The North American headquarters for Nestlé Purina PetCare is located at Checkerboard Square in St. Louis, Missouri.  The company is part of Swiss-based Nestlé S.A., the world’s largest food company.
