A Feline Purr...spective
The Catfisher Rod
& Reel
By Stacy Mantle
Have you ever searched
for a toy that will wear out your rambunctious kittens? Seriously
– have you searched for a toy that will keep your psychotic cats
occupied for hours, which expends very little energy on your part,
and requires little attention and almost no maintenance?
Well good news, my
friends. I have found
the perfect toy! It is
called (pause for effect)… the
CatFisher Rod and Reel from Bamboo
Pet Products.
Okay, the name may
have been a bit anticlimactic, but you have to admit it is
effective. It describes
the product (rod and reel), and it identifies what the product does
(fish for cats).
When I first brought
this product home, my cats went absolutely nuts.
My dogs too, but that’s another product for a later review.
After placing the dogs in another room so the cats could play
uninterrupted, I began the first round of what became a nightly
ritual. It’s better than television; it’s even better than
reading! Casting out
the CatFisher was so much fun, not only for the cats, but for my
husband and I as well, that we had to call a halt to the game 30
minutes into it, because the cats were panting and still refused to
stop chasing after the lure.
Yep – panting…
Cats don’t generally
pant in a house where the median temperature is kept 68 degrees.
Let me tell you a
little about how the CatFisher works.
This realistic fishing rod casts line up to 40 feet, although
you have total control how far you want to cast.
You can do a short cast, long cast, fly-cast, or if you’re
like me, a drop cast (and that was not intentional).
It doesn’t matter to the cats, they’ll still go after it
like wild things,
and you’ll still have fun watching them chase it.
It comes fully
assembled with two little “lures” which, of course, are mice.
The lures are easily detachable, so if the cat ends up
hanging onto the mouse, he’s rewarded with it.
You have a quick backup lure that stores in the handle of the
rod, so that you can quickly distract your favorite feline with yet
another cast while you retrieve the mouse he has legitimately
caught! That’s the
beauty of this toy – no feelings are ever hurt, there is a reward
at the end of the cast if they work hard enough for it, and it is a
complete workout for your cats even in an indoor setting.
I’m not sure what
the “test weight” on the line is, but at one point we had three
cats attacking the line at one time and it never broke.
So it has to be pretty strong.
The mice lures also hold up incredibly well, and can handle
the strongest teeth and claws!
Ours even survived an attack by the dog, although it was a
bit worse for wear and slightly “thinner”.
No worries though, if you lose all of the lures, you can
easily buy replacements through any number of online resources, or
in just about any pet store.
The rod folds in half
for easy storage, and will surely bring out the hunter instincts of
even the most domesticated feline.
In all, I have to highly recommend this product.
It’s fun, it’s entertaining for your favorite felines, as
well as yourself, and you will get a lot of use out of it.
The only problem we have had is a tangled line, which we were
able to fix ourselves the first time, and the second time we put in
a call to the manufacturer, and they promptly shipped out a
replacement unit.
Retailing at only $19.99, this toy is a bargain that your pets will
love! This is one more
item that will be appearing on my upcoming “Holiday list for Cat
Lovers,” so put it on your cat’s Christmas list, because they
deserve the very best!
From the cats:
HIsses
& Spits: Mom and dad only let us play with it once a day!
If only we had opposable thumbs…
Purrs:
All paws up – we love our CatFisher Rod & Reel!
From
the humans:
Two opposable thumbs up!
Too
much fun! If you
don’t already have one, order now!
You won’t regret it and your cats will love you for it!
Drawback? None that we can find!
We’ve had a lot of fun with this!
We’ll have to pick up a few more now that we have seen how
much the cats have enjoyed it!
